My Role
I conceptualized all game scenes for the teaser, designing and illustrating characters and game assets from scratch. I conducted five concept testing sessions which received high ratings from all participants. Additionally, I managed the project development pipeline, collaborating effectively with 3D modelers, animators, and game scene developers to bring the vision to life.
Research
Find a Way in Ambiguity
Initially, the team aspired to develop a game but struggled to determine the appropriate genre. After aligning with business objectives, I spearheaded research into popular building and survival games including Minecraft, Clash of Clans, and Whiteout Survival. Through methodical analysis of their mechanics and structures, I provided the team with crucial insights that informed our design direction and established a solid foundation for our development process.
Conceptualize
Crafting the Muir Universe: From Concept to Prototype
Following extensive team brainstorming sessions, we settled on developing an open-world survival game. Once we began crafting initial world concepts for the Muir Universe, I recognized the need to validate our ideas with our target audience. Rather than testing abstract concepts alone, I proactively created interactive props in Figma using Midjourney-generated assets to simulate a sample gameplay experience. This approach allowed testers to engage with a tangible representation of our vision, providing us with more meaningful and actionable feedback.
Concept Testing
Strategic Testing: Data-Driven Validation
We strategically identified participants by distributing 79 surveys to assess gaming habits, ultimately selecting five individuals who precisely matched our target gamers. I facilitated all testing sessions, which generated overwhelmingly positive feedback on our concepts. Several participants expressed enthusiasm by inquiring about our anticipated launch date.
2D Scene Design & Development
Creative Direction: From AI Reference to Unity Implementation
I led the creative development process, guiding the team to visualize our shared vision by leveraging Midjourney to generate rapid reference imagery. I Illustrated the characters, and also animated 2D game scene assets and implemented them in Unity to bring our concept to life.
